Our Relationship With God

Do we know God or do we just know things about Him? Because if we have a relationship with God it means that we relate to God and He relates to us. The question is this? In most Christians lives does this really happen?

Not do you know the Church and not do you know sound doctrine and do you go to Church and follow the agenda that is set forth for you to follow. But do you know God? Because you can do every one of these things and not know God. You can go to Church every Sunday and sit in the pews and not know God. So the question is not about your religion, it is about your relationship with God.

So what does this relationship with God mean? First let me tell you what it means to me.

When I first met God it wasn't about me accepting Him, It was about Him conquering me. And when He conquered me He conquered all of me. When Paul met Jesus on the road to Damascus......Paul was conquered by Jesus. Everything that Paul previously wanted in life that day disappeared. It just vanished. Because now Paul had a different life. From now on he would live his life for God. And now what drove his life would be his relationship with with a great and Holy God.

This pretty much describes me. Just think an old life thrown away and replaced by a new life. My friends this is what a new creation is all about. A life that becomes a living sacrifice.

Rom 12:1 I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.
Rom 12:2 Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.

We are to become living sacrifices. In other words we owe our whole lives to God. Not just our physical lives, But also our spiritual lives. All our being is to become a sacrificial life before God and man. Our lives and every bit of our lives are to be given over to God as a sacrifice. And it is done while we live out our lives in this body. This body is not us....We live in this body. The same way this earth is not our homes as we are only passing through. We are Pilgrims.

Worship is not what you do in Church. And praise. Do you really praise God or just who you think God is. What you envision Him to be? In Church they call it a worship service. But can you worship what you don't really know. Do you really know God? Or it just what the Church denomination that you go to says that God is. Is it what the books you read says that He is. Is it what your mother told you or your grandmother told you?

We know God because of what He revealed about Himself in scri pture and we know God through the experiences that we have with Him. And we test our experiences according to scri pture and not according to what someone says.

Now think about this for a second. What if what you had always been taught was wrong? If what you thought about God was wrong then how and what kind of relationship could you have with Him? There are many who say eschatology does not matter. But doesn't believing the right things about scri pture matter when it comes to having a relationship with God? You bet it does! It matters in how you relate to God and how He relates to you. It mattered to me because now I have the kind of relationship that I should of always had and didn't have with God.

My perspective wasn't only changed my friends it was shipwrecked! When Paul met Jesus on the road to Damascus his perspective was also shipwrecked! When my views changed...My life changed...My relationship to God changed. My relationship with Him has changed so much and for the better. What did I change? I became a Preterist! And there is probably nothing about me that it didn't touch. Now it takes courage to become a Preterist. But then again it took courage for Paul to become a Christian and eventually he died because he became a Christian. Yes....I am also willing to die for what I believe because like Paul I believe that God is right here by my side. I don't just believe it.....I know it!! God is here!! God is alive!! God is real! And the incredible thing is this.....I have a real relationship with Him.
